Internetworking with TCP/IP

Length:28 approx. academic hours

TCP/IP is the protocol suite that forms the basis of the Internet, it is a key element in building heterogeneous network environments. TCP/IP can be used to connect Windows clients to IBM mainframes, UNIX minicomputers to NT workstations, and a wide variety of hardware including simple network computers and shared printers. Network vendors such as IBM, Microsoft and Novell have been migrating their proprietary technology to a TCP/IP base. The focus of this course is on vendor independent TCP/IP and it will teach you how to build and maintain large TCP/IP networks. You will cover the theory of TCP/IP, build a TCP/IP Internetwork using different systems, and learn about security issues. TCP/IP is not specific to any hardware/OS platform. However, practical exercises and platform-specific details will be based on UNIX and Windows NT, the two most popular server platforms in use on the Internet and within Intranets. The course will cover many different implementations and how they can inter-operate; a true Open Systems approach.
